Tom Snyder (1936 - 2007)

Talk show host Tom Snyder, whose smoke-filled interviews were a staple of late night television and an inspiration for Dan Ackroyd on "Saturday Night Live", has died after a struggle with leukemia. He was 71.

I highly recommend checking out the following four clips from his talk show for some of the finest television viewing in the history of the medium. The story behind the scenes is that Kiss were scheduled to be on his show and prior to the show, Tom was told that Ace is sort of withdrawn and he might have to bring him out of his shell. As you will see in the clips, Ace was pretty well lit and took over the interview, which pissed off Gene $immon$ who typically wants all eyes on him.

Thank you, Tom, and away with the show...

And this just in, some of the best fucking news I've heard in ages and ages and ages. It's time to.....ReBoot!!!

Early CG TV gets 'ReBoot'
Rainmaker to develop feature films
By Carolyn Giardina

July 23, 2007
"ReBoot" -- one of the earliest computer-animated episodic TV series -- will be redeveloped as a trilogy of feature-length films by Rainmaker Animation.

Originally produced in 1994, the series was created by MainFrame Entertainment, which was acquired by and renamed Rainmaker in 2006. "ReBoot" aired for several seasons on ABC, YTV and Cartoon Network.

"The idea is to relaunch the brand in a new way," said Rainmaker Animation executive vp Paul Gertz, who will oversee the project....

The Great American Asstime is Passed Prime

I'm not sure how, but I survived another season.

I'm still really saddened by it all.

It really is a game. Honest. I swear to you, it's a GAME. You remember "game", don't you? Heck, sometimes it's used in conjunction with that other word, "fun".

The kids seem to have fun. THEY seem to remember it's a game. Yet the accusations fly from the parents, along with grunts and groans and overly-loud Ooohs (that are really Boos with a silent B).

Oh! But you LOVE the sport. It's not about fun with you, it's about wanting to win. Not just in sports, but in everything. It's competition, and competition's HEALTHY. Isn't it? Of course it is!

Yeah, it's healthy alright, so place your bets. Keep on gritting your teeth, and clenching your fist and prevent your heart from beating until it's all over. Because, oh yeah, it's healthy. You're the fucking picture of health you are. Your cheeks aren't red, they're rosy. Your lungs aren't on fire from cursing the Ump, they're full of life. Why, I think you could run a goddamn marathon between each inning. Go on, we'll wait for you. Hell, I will douse your hairy cheeks in Gatorade when you get back and then we can take turns calling the other team "poo poo heads".

What? Sure name calling is healthy!! See, watch how I do it:

"You sorry son-of-a-piece of a human. You worthless bag of redneck shit-dust. Move your it's-not-a-dick-it's-an-SUV so I don't have to look at your scrawny-ass meth-for-cereal road whore wife. Holy shit I feel healthy!"

By the way, your favorite sport steam would LOVE to see you in that jersey that was too small for you 6 years ago, because...your sports packaging SUCKS, asshole!!

Repeats? Who the hell knows.

Can't remember posting these or not. I don't think I did for one reason or other, but here they are straight from the hard drive in their raw form. I'm sure they need a bit more work, and hell, maybe I did post them...but fuck it.

Dissing Doom

Too many days on the edge, wanting, trying, to hide.
Hear that?
That high-pitched eerie tone?
It's the sound of Doom.
But I just put on my headphones.
And laugh.
Play us through, Hair Metal Gods.
We're not stopping today.
We're not stopping.
Can't you see?
Can't you see we don't want you anymore?

Your packaging kicks ass!!

Yes, folks. Occasionally, there comes a product that has such kick ass packaging that we take time away from our busy schedule of ridiculing those products whose packaging is truly a disgrace, completely inferior and well, sucks (!!). It's what we do. We're packaging snobs.

So you're likely wondering if Red Hots or Krispy Kreme have upgraded to swanky ass, deeeee-luxe packaging for their equally swanky products and no, they're perfect just the way they are. While I can't comment on the soundtrack or the movie itself, I will say the movie soundtrack packaging kicks ass.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the limited edition donut packaging for the Simpsons Movie soundtrack...

(Although I will add that if a donut is done up right, it doesn't need all the fancy ass sprinkles and such, but what the hell. Donuts kick ass.)

And while it's not Krispy Kreme, that guitar player is pretty damn cool.

hot damn summer in the city

It's Tuesday and boredom is chomping on my brain like Pac Man after escaping from a prisoner of war camp. There's little or nothing to say, because one day is not really that different from another and after a while, they blend together. It's like setting fire to a box of crayons (preferably the Crayola 64 pack with built-in sharpener) and they rescuing the flaming blob of colors. Likely it would just be a nasty ass shade of brown and that's no good for anyone, except for connoisseurs of the nasty ass brown hue.

The sun is out and unfortunately heat and humidity hitched a ride and probably didn't pitch in gas money. Uninvited passengers that show up unannounced just to shit on the parade route before the horses bringing up the rear have a chance to do that very thing. It could very easily become some kind of fecal competition if it weren't for a strict adherence to health codes and social values, even in their fading condition.

Thankfully, there are two forms of saving grace from preventing residual madness from setting in. The box of donuts that a student worker brought to the workplace today and the stack of Thin Lizzy CDs currently residing on my desk. At this precise moment, Thin Lizzy could very well be the best band ever. The one cinnamon roll thingy was more than worth the dirty looks and scolding tone of voice that I got from a new-ish co-worker that seems to be under the impression that diabetic types shouldn't be eating donuts. I guess next thing I'll hear is that listening to Thin Lizzy is hazardous to my health. If that's the case, check me out of this cheap hotel and be quick about it. Okay, so maybe I should include functional climate control to that list so that it isn't completely forsaken. All hail the air conditioner!

Since I have nothing of interest to throw out for mass consumption (which is standard operating procedure for me), I will add that there have been some new items chucked up over at the bastard son of YPS!! ...The Listening Party. We haven't painted or re-carpeted the place or anything over the top, but there are some chilled beverages in the refrigerator and maybe some chips of a non-stale variety. Help yourself to some goodness. You deserve it.

Dear Neighbor (One Of Many I Do Not Talk To)

Perhaps Underwriters Laboratory has given you expressed permission for continued and prolonged use of your “bug zapper” device, perhaps not. Either way, please DO consider shutting it down at least during freakish thunderstorms. If the water alone is not enough to send sparks flying, it may just be that the crashing winds could assist the “bug zapper” from it’s heavenly perch and thus causing catastrophic damage to your (I’m sure) highly prized collectables you have accumulated under the carport.

Michael Dean Damron & Thee Loyal Bastards.

I made no secret about my love of the man's work with I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House. I made no secret about the man's first solo album. I stumbled upon this clip this morning and it promptly kicked my ass like a rented mule.

Michael Dean Damron.

Rocket Babes to the Rescue!!

So I got a new office and had to add a new toy in celebration. Not the best vid, but I'm sure you get the idea.

It's a USB cannon that plays circus music when aiming, has a sound when you fire and then there's nice applause at the end. It also comes with a nice net, pink of course, for the Rocket Babes to land safely.

By the way, today's quote of the day: "She could be a Golden Girl, without the sheen."

On The Fourth: A Hopeful Message from HopeLabs

Gamers and non-gamers alike can enjoy this link from HopeLabs. They've put in some very successful efforts to create a game environment in which the users are battling cancer in the form of tiny robots INSIDE the patient's body. It looks great, sounds great AND it's fun.

Oh, and did I mention you can get your copy FREE? WITH non-sucky packaging!!

It's installed on my computer, so what are you waiting for?!!?!?!? GO KICK SOME CANCER ASS!!!

This 40 second vid I threw together contains a song from the game called "colon mx 1". How could I NOT use that??

http://www.re-mission.net/

Directly from the site:

"Imagine that you're working in a research laboratory during the day. You watch cancer cells multiplying under a microscope. At night, you go home and play video games with your family and friends. Then you get the idea that a video game for young people with cancer might play a positive role in helping them fight their disease. A video game designed especially for kids with cancer might give them a feeling of power over their disease as they blast away at the cancer cells. And you could use top-notch research to test the game and see if it really would help the kids. That's exactly what Pam Omidyar imagined. And in 2001, she founded HopeLab to make this idea a reality.

The result, a game called Re-Mission (featuring Roxxi, the intrepid nanobot), is a challenging, 3D "shooter" with 20 levels that takes the player on a journey through the body of young patients with different kinds of cancer. Created by leading video game developers and animators in collaboration with scientific and medical consultants and HopeLab staff, this state-of-the-art game is designed to be cool and fun, while helping players to increase their personal knowledge about cancer and improve their confidence in their ability to manage their cancer.

Teenagers and young adults with cancer participated actively throughout the game development process to ensure that the game was fun, and that it really spoke to the issues that they confront every day in their fight against cancer.

Once the game was done, HopeLab rolled out a multi-center, controlled research study in the US, Canada and Australia to see if the game would have any impact on the kids with cancer who received Re-Mission compared to kids with cancer who received a different video game. HopeLab wanted to be sure that Re-Mission was safe and also see whether or not it might actually help kids with cancer who received it. Results of this exciting study will be reported in the coming weeks.

HopeLab has created www.Re-Mission.net to enable broad distribution of the game free of charge to young people with cancer, and to provide an open, interactive, online community for teens and young adults with cancer to support one another."

Sorry Brain, But...he's DEAD.

Some Joker, not this joker, but some Joker must have gotten him. Maybe right when he came out of the Batcave. Maybe during an oil change on the Batmobile. It's just...not clear.

All I know, is that when I went to the funeral home to pay my respects to the well-loved and respected father-in-law of my sister, there, across the hall from the honorable judge was another visitation taking place. I saw the name placard above the door and froze in my tracks. My left hand dove deep into my left pocket, stretching for the (shut up) camera phone so I could bring you proof. But alas, I could not click the shutter.

I even went into the visitation I was there to, um, visit, and secretly inquired from family if I should go take the picture. Like me, they froze.

Therefore, all I have to offer you is an eyewitness account.

Across the hall from my sister's now deceased father-in-law was the visitation with a placard above the door that read "Mr. Batman."

I shit you not.

Gotham is FUCKED.

That chickenshit Robin can't handle it on his own!!

Now, please. A moment of Batsilence.

Sick Things.

Right out of the gate, I would like to stress that this is in no way a cheap way of seeking sympathy. Nay. It is simply a handful of observations that I put together over the course of the weekend when I was beneath the weather yet above the soil. All things considered, if you're under the weather, it's good to be above the soil unless you're feeling so completely shitty that you simply want to be planted instead of suffering.

Observation #1--If you're going to be sick, do not do it on the weekend. You work hard all week so the weekend should belong to you. Be sick on the clock and if you're sick during the work week, then take your ailing ass home because no one wants the shit that's kicking your ass. There are few things worse than putting in a 13 hour day at the workplace then staying up all night vomiting. It's just not the way that it should be done.

Observation #2--If you're going to be sick (and I hope that you're not), for the love of all that is holy, do not eat burritos prior to the evacuation maneuver. You will thank me for this helpful hint when it comes to be your turn kneeling at the porcelain altar. After the events of late Friday/early Saturday, I may have a package of frozen burritos for a lucky contest winner.

Observation #3--Put on some music while you vomit. Admittedly, I didn't have the foresight to do this one, so it's still in the theory stage. While I'm not exactly a fan of the death metal, I'm thinking the subtle sounds of vomitus eruptus would blend nicely with those bands whose vocalists sound like Cookie Monster passing a kidney stone. And if any of the gents in Cannibal Corpse are reading YPS!! and you don't already have a song called Vomitus Eruptus in your musical catalog, well, get to it and write one. Give me credit for it too or at the very least give me special thanks in the liner notes. Nothing would make my mom more proud than seeing her boy's name in the liner notes of a Cannibal Corpse album. That is only if she could stop rolling her eyes over the other song titles.

Observation #4--Well hell, there really isn't a number four, but three seemed rather lightweight, so four is the equivalent of the obligatory power ballad filler track that bands in the 80's used to boost mainstream sales and alienate their hardcore fanbase, except for Motorhead. They waited for the 90's and after a trial run or two, they got it right by calling one of them One More Fucking Time.

Observation #5--If you get sick after hearing a co-worker discuss their bout with an illness, feel free to use non-sucky packaging (like a Mason jar) to capture your excommunicated food and dump the contents on their head while saying "May the corn be with you." And remember, it's always about the non-sucky packaging (!!).

I will close this crap by saying that my declining health and increasing age has totally tarnished my non-vomit streak. As of June 2003, I went a solid 10-15 years without raining stomach contents on the Ty-D Bol Man's vessel. Sure, I had a good run and it's something to be proud of and four years with no digestion reversal is nothing to sneeze at, but I can't help but feel like an athlete that is past his prime and slowly fading into obscurity. My status in the Non-Vomiteur Hall Of Fame seems to be on thin ice at the moment.

After these last two incidents, I will forever be paranoid when June rolls around. I will likely consume nothing more than apple sauce and purified water, so that if the gears of digestion get slammed into reverse again, it will be like yacking up an apple blossom.

Offers of sympathy, preferably of a financial nature can be sent directly to the former Non-Vomiteur MVP.
